Description
The RT9712 power-distribution switches are designed for applications with heavy capacitive loads and short-circuit situations. They incorporate two 90mΩ N-MOSFET power switches for power distribution systems requiring multiple power switches in a single package.
During switching, an internal charge pump provides the gate drive to control power-switch rise and fall times, minimizing current surges. The charge pump operates with supply voltages as low as 2.7V and requires no external components.
If the output load exceeds the current-limit threshold or a short-circuit occurs, the RT9712 series pulls the overcurrent (FLGX) logic output low by switching into constant-current mode to maintain the output current at a safe level.
A thermal protection circuit turns off the switch to prevent damage when power dissipation increases due to continuous heavy overloads or short-circuits, and automatically recovers when the device has sufficiently cooled down.
The RT9712A/B are designed for a current limit of typically 2A, while the RT9712C/D are designed for a current limit of typically 1.5A. Internal circuitry controls the switch to remain off until a valid input voltage is presented.
