NE5532 is a dual operational amplifier chip with excellent performance and low noise characteristics. Its circuit design is similar to that of a common operational amplifier, but it has better noise characteristics and output drive performance, as well as wider operating bandwidth and operating voltage range. Therefore, NE5532 is especially suitable for fields requiring high-performance control circuits, professional acoustic equipment, telephone channel amplifiers and instruments. As an audio amplifier, it can produce realistic, warm and full sound effects, so it is called "the king of operational amplifiers" by the majority of users. So far, NE5532 is still one of the necessary operational amplifiers for many electronic equipment designers and audio enthusiasts.

The RC4558 device is a dual channel multipurpose operational amplifier. The electrical performance of each half is similar to uA741, but does not provide offset nulling function. This amplifier is ideally suited for voltage followers due to its wide common-mode input voltage range and lack of latch-up. In addition, this device also has short circuit protection features. Without adding external components, its internal frequency compensation can ensure the stability of the system. The above characteristics enable the RC4558 device to have good performance and stable performance in different applications.

As can be seen from the above table, there are certain similarities and differences between NE5532 and RC4558D. They have the same characteristics in package, number of channels, operating virtual-junction temperature, storage temperature range, but differ in packaging, supply voltage, slew rate, input bias current, common mode rejection ratio. These differences make the two devices have their own advantages and disadvantages in specific applications. Therefore, we should choose the appropriate model according to actual needs.

In terms of circuit design, there are the following differences between NE5532 and RC4558D.

• Gain setting: NE5532 can set the gain through external resistors, but the gain of RC4558D is determined by an internal circuit. So the two settings are different.

• Negative feedback design: The negative feedback of NE5532 is relatively easy to implement, while the negative feedback design of RC4558D is more complicated and requires more factors to be considered.

• Frequency modulation: Due to the slow frequency response of NE5532, additional frequency compensation is required. The RC4558D has fast frequency response characteristics and does not require frequency compensation.

• Power supply design: The power supply current of NE5532 is relatively large, so thicker power lines are needed to reduce line voltage drop. In comparison, the power supply current of RC4558D is relatively small, and the requirements for the power supply line are also relatively low.

Ⅵ. Application of NE5532 and RC4558D

The NE5532 and RC4558D are both high-performance, multi-function operational amplifiers, but their application areas may be different.

Because NE5532 has excellent performance in audio signal processing and can obtain high-quality audio signals, it is especially suitable for use in situations with high audio signal requirements. NE5532 is widely used in video and imaging, digital control, audio amplifiers, electronic musical instruments, televisions, audio, etc.

The RC4558D is suitable for circuit designs with high requirements on accuracy, stability, and gain, such as precision instruments, motor drives, wireless communications, etc. Because RC4558D has a higher gain and uses negative feedback technology, the signal processing of RC4558D is more accurate and the stability of the system is improved. In addition, the RC4558D can also be used in professional audio mixers and DVD recorders and players.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is NE5532 a dual op-amp?

The NE5532, also sold as SA5532, SE5532 and NG5532 (commonly called just 5532) is a dual monolithic, bipolar, internally compensated operational amplifier (op amp) for audio applications introduced by Signetics in 1979.

2. What does NE5532 do?

The NE5532 is a Dual Low Noise Op-Amp in 8-pin package commonly used as amplifiers in audio circuits for its noise immunity and high output drive capability. The Op-Amp is internally compensated for high unity gain with maximum output swing bandwidth, low distortion and high slew rate.

3. What is the minimum voltage for NE5532?

The NE5532 are specified down to a total supply voltage of 6V but whether it'll actually work depends on how it's configured and the requirements for the design.

4. What is RC4558 dual general purpose operational amplifier?

The RC4558, RM4558, and RV4558 are dual general-purpose operational amplifiers with each half electrically similar to the uA741 except that offset null capability is not provided. The high common-mode input voltage range and the absence of latch-up make these amplifiers ideal for voltage-follower applications.
