Description
The controlled on-time, zero current switching technique provides a simple and efficient solution for obtaining high power factor correction. This discontinuous inductor current approach essentially programs a constant switch on-time during one line half-cycle. It does not require any "complex" analog square, multiply, and divide functions to control the instantaneous switch current as with other PFC techniques. Additionally, zero current switching limits the peak current to exactly twice that of the average inductor current over all line and load combinations. High efficiency operation is also achieved with no boost rectifier recovery concerns and power loss.
