UC2832TDWEP Description
All the control features necessary for the creation of very low dropout linear regulators are included in the UC2832 family of precision linear regulators. They also have a novel duty-ratio current limitation approach, which limits the average power consumption of the external pass transistor during fault conditions while providing peak load capacity. A gated-astable timer is enabled when the load current reaches a precisely defined threshold, switching the regulator's pass device on and off at an externally controllable duty-ratio. The output current is restricted to a value only slightly greater than the duty-ratio timer's trip threshold when the pass element is turned on. On the UC2832, the constant-current-limit can be programmed to allow a larger peak current during the pass device's on-time. High initial load requirements and short circuit protection can both be supported via duty-ratio management without the need for additional heat sinking or foldback current limiting. The duty-ratio timer is also deactivated and the IC runs in constant-voltage/constant-current regulating mode if the timer pin is grounded.
