Description
The TPS6205x family of synchronous step-down DC/DC converters offers high efficiency (up to 95%) and low quiescent current (12 μA typical). With an operating input voltage range of 2.7 V to 10 V, these converters can power systems from 1-cell or 2-cell Li-Ion batteries or 3-cell to 5-cell NiCd, NiMH, or alkaline batteries.
The TPS6205x features an adjustable output voltage range from 0.7 V to 6 V, with fixed output voltage options available in 1.5 V, 1.8 V, and 3.3 V. It can be synchronized to an external clock signal up to 1.2 MHz, and operates at a typical frequency of 850 kHz, allowing for the use of small inductor and capacitor values.
The converter enters a power-saving pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) mode at light load currents to achieve high efficiency over a wide load current range. It also supports 100% maximum duty cycle for lowest dropout and low noise operation in forced-fixed frequency PWM mode.
The TPS6205x is protected against overtemperature and overcurrent conditions, and has an internal softstart function. It is available in a 10-pin micro-small outline package (MSOP) and operates over an ambient temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
