Description
The MIC2586 and MIC2586R are single-channel positive voltage hot swap controllers/sequencers designed for safe insertion and removal of boards in live backplane systems. They use external N-channel power MOSFETs for inrush current and output voltage slew rate control. Overcurrent fault protection is provided by programmable analog foldback current-limit circuitry with an overcurrent filter. These protection circuits limit power dissipation of the external MOSFET to ensure it remains within its safe operating area during fault conditions.
The MIC2586 features a circuit breaker function that latches the output MOSFET off if the load current exceeds the current-limit threshold for the duration of the programmable timer. The MIC2586R attempts to restart power after a load current fault with a low duty cycle to prevent MOSFET overheating.
Each device provides either an active-HIGH (-1BM) or an active-LOW (-2BM) "power-is-good" (PWRGD) signal. The MIC2586 and MIC2586R offer up to three time-sequenced PWRGD outputs for controlling DC/DC converter circuits or power modules.
