The TL082 is a dual operational amplifier with many excellent features. It has the characteristics of low noise, low distortion, low output impedance and high input impedance, making it very suitable for use in signal amplification, filtering, measurement and many other fields. Since TL082 uses the front stage of JFET as the input stage of the operational amplifier, it has high input impedance, a slew rate of up to 13V/us and very low total harmonic distortion.

Each operational amplifier of the TL082 has two inputs and one output. The signal at the inverting input terminal has an opposite phase to the signal at the output terminal, while the signal at the non-inverting input terminal has the same phase as the signal at the output terminal. By adjusting the signal size and phase at the input end, it can achieve different amplification and filtering effects. TL082 is also equipped with pins such as power supply positive pole, power supply negative pole and ground terminal to provide working voltage and ground protection. The zero adjustment terminal is used to eliminate the DC offset at the output terminal, and the frequency compensation terminal is used to improve the overall stability of the circuit.

Ⅱ. Features of TL082 operational amplifier

• Low input noise: The TL082 has a relatively low input noise level, which is very important for applications in low signal-to-noise ratio environments, such as in audio amplifiers.

• High Common-Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR): Common-mode rejection ratio measures an op amp's ability to reject common-mode signals on both inputs. The continuous impedance characteristics of TL082 greatly reduce its sensitivity to common mode interference.

• Dual-channel design: TL082 is a dual-channel operational amplifier that can process two signals at the same time.

• Output short circuit protection: It has output short circuit protection function to prevent damage to the device due to accidental short circuit at the output terminal.

• Low input bias current: Input bias current is the current entering the input of the op amp. The TL082 has low input bias current, which helps reduce voltage drift caused at the input.

• Wide operating temperature range: It has a wide temperature range, typically between -40°C to 105°C.

• Wide power supply voltage range: TL082 has a wide power supply voltage supply capability and usually operates normally within the range of 3V to 22V, which allows it to adapt to a variety of different application requirements.

• Low input offset voltage: The input offset voltage is the voltage difference between the two input ports of the op amp. The TL082's low input bias voltage helps improve op amp performance.

• High input impedance: It has high input impedance, which means it has less impact on external circuitry and does not introduce excessive loading effects.

• Low total harmonic distortion: The TL082 demonstrates excellent linear characteristics, minimizing harmonic distortion and delivering high-quality audio signals.

• Built-in frequency compensation circuit: It has a built-in frequency compensation circuit that can optimize the frequency response characteristics of the amplifier.

Pin 1 (OUTPUT A): Output Of Amplifier A

Pin 2 (INVERTING INPUT A): Inverting Input Of Amplifier A

Pin 3 (NON-INVERTING INPUT A): Non-Inverting Input Of Amplifier A

Pin 4 (VEE): Emitter Supply Voltage

Pin 5 (NON-INVERTING INPUT B): Non-Inverting Input Of Amplifier B

Pin 6 (INVERTING INPUT B): Inverting Input Of Amplifier B

Pin 7 (OUTPUT B): Output Of Amplifier B

Pin 8 (VCC): Collector Supply Voltage

Ⅳ. How does the output short-circuit protection function of TL082 work?

The output short-circuit protection function of TL082 is implemented through internal current limit and temperature protection circuits.

Current limit: When a short circuit occurs at the output, the current will increase rapidly. The current limiting circuit inside the TL082 will detect excessive current and automatically reduce the gain of the amplifier or cut off the power supply to prevent equipment damage caused by excessive current.

Temperature protection: When the operating temperature of TL082 is too high, the temperature protection circuit will detect the excessive temperature and then automatically cut off the power supply or take other protective measures to prevent the equipment from being damaged due to overheating.

Ⅵ. What is the difference between TL072 and TL082?

TL072 and TL082 are both dual integrated operational amplifiers, and they have differences in parameters and applications. First of all, considering input bias voltage, the TL072 exhibits a low input bias voltage, typically ranging from 1 mV to 5 mV, whereas the TL082 has a comparatively higher input bias voltage, typically falling between 3 mV and 15 mV. Moving on to input bias current, the TL072 boasts a low input bias current, typically ranging from 5 nA to 30 nA, while the TL082 features a relatively higher input bias current, typically varying from 20 nA to 200 nA. In terms of applications, owing to its low input bias current and voltage, the TL072 proves suitable for applications demanding heightened precision, such as audio processing. Conversely, the TL082 may be better suited for general applications where stringent accuracy requirements are not paramount.

Ⅶ. What are the applications of TL082 operational amplifier?

1. Integrator circuit

Integrator circuits are one of the common applications of the TL082. The integrator circuit is mainly used for the integration and summation of signals. It can realize the integral operation of the signal by connecting the input signal to the capacitor. The high gain characteristics of TL082 enable the integrator circuit to accurately process weak signals and integrate them, thereby outputting the corresponding integration result.

2. Comparator circuit

The primary purpose of the comparator circuit is to compare signals and make determinations. This is accomplished by linking one input terminal of the TL082 to the reference voltage and the other input terminal to the signal under measurement. Based on the comparison results, it can trigger the operation of other circuits or the output of control signals.

3. Voltage follower

TL082 is also used in voltage follower circuits. The function of the voltage tracking circuit is to copy the changes in the input signal to the output terminal, thereby realizing the voltage following function. The high input resistance and low offset current characteristics of TL082 enable the voltage follower circuit to effectively follow changes in the input signal and output the corresponding voltage.

4. Signal generator

The TL082 is versatile for crafting signal generator circuits, predominantly employed in producing diverse waveforms like square waves, triangle waves, and sine waves. Through manipulation of circuit parameters and input signals, precise control over signal frequency, amplitude, phase, and more can be attained. Leveraging the TL082's high gain and low offset current attributes ensures the generation of stable and precise signal waveforms.

5. Differential amplifier circuit

Differential amplifier circuits are mainly used for signal amplification and filtering. It consists of two mutually opposite input terminals and an output terminal. The high gain and low noise characteristics of TL082 enable the differential amplifier circuit to effectively amplify weak signals and reduce noise interference.

6. Filter circuit

Filter circuit is another typical application of TL082. Filter circuits serve the primary purpose of signal filtering and frequency selection. Various types of filter circuits, including low pass, high pass, or band pass, can be designed based on specific requirements. The TL082's high input resistance and low offset current characteristics enable the filter circuit to efficiently eliminate unwanted signals, facilitating a clearer extraction of the desired signal.
