Ⅰ. What is a button battery?

Button batteries refer to small batteries shaped like buttons and coins. The letters in front of the model name of a button battery indicate the type of battery, and the numbers indicate the dimension. Specifically, the first two digits indicate the diameter of the battery and the last two digits indicate the thickness of the battery. Button batteries include both rechargeable and non-rechargeable types. Rechargeable button batteries include 3.6V rechargeable lithium-ion button batteries (LIR series) and 3V rechargeable lithium-ion button batteries (ML or VL series). Non-rechargeable coin cell batteries include 3V lithium manganese button cell (CR series) and 1.5V alkaline zinc-manganese button cell (LR and SR series).

Common button batteries include CR2032 for computer motherboards, CR2025 for electronic dictionaries, AG3, AG10, AG13 for toys and gifts, and CR2016, SR44, SR626 for electronic watches. Button batteries have been widely used in various miniature electronic products because of their small size.

Ⅱ. CR2032 vs CR2450: Overview

1. CR2032 Overview

CR2032 is a common lithium battery that is widely used in various small electronic devices and equipment, such as sensors, calculators, electronic scales, remote controls, etc. It is manufactured by Panasonic Semiconductor. This battery has a compact size and lightweight design and is usually presented in the shape of a round coin.

Its positive electrode material uses manganese dioxide with very stable chemical properties, and its negative electrode material uses metallic lithium. The electrolyte is solid salts or salts dissolved in organic solvents. CR2032 lithium button battery has the advantages of long storage period, small self-discharge, safe use, wide operating temperature range, etc., and can work normally in the range of - 20°C to 70°C.

CR2450 button type lithium manganese dioxide battery is named according to IEC standard. "C" stands for the chemical battery system with lithium metal as negative electrode and manganese dioxide as positive electrode. "CR" means the shape of the battery is button type, and "2450" represents the standard size of the battery. Button cells are usually named with the first two digits (one digit if less than 10mm) for the diameter and the last two digits for the thickness.

Ⅳ. CR2032 vs CR2450: Features

1. What are the features of CR2032?

• It adopts stainless steel surface shell, which has remarkable corrosion resistance. At the same time, it is assembled and sealed with edge insulation material, which has excellent anti-leakage properties.

• CR2032 uses MnO2 as the positive active material and Li as the negative active material.

• Its life span is usually five years. But if the use environment is ideal, its lifespan will be further extended to eight to ten years.

2. What are the features of CR2450?

• It has good pulse capability and can provide large amounts of energy in a short period of time.

• CR2450 generally has a low self-discharge rate, which allows it to retain power for relatively long periods of time when stored.

• The CR2450 battery contains zero mercury, so it meets environmental standards.

• CR2450 has high voltage and high energy density. Its voltage is as high as 3V, which can help electrical appliances save power supply space and achieve lightweight.

Ⅵ. CR2450 vs CR2032: Applications

1. What are the applications of CR2450?

• Remote control

• Calculator

• Sensor

• Small PDA equipment

• Bluetooth headsets and other smart wearable devices

• Thermometer

2. What are the applications of CR2032?

• Glucometer

• Card reader

• Digital thermometer

• Heart rate monitor

• GPS device

• Computer storage

Ⅶ. CR2450 vs CR2032: Dimension and package

Both batteries have a nominal voltage of 3.0V, but differ in dimension. CR2450 is larger than CR2032. In CR2032 batteries, "20" means that the diameter of the battery is 20mm, and "3.2" means that the height of the battery is about 3.2mm. In the CR2450 battery, "24" means the diameter is about 24.5mm, and "5.0" means the height of the battery is 5.0mm.

In addition, the outer packaging of the two is also different. For the same type of battery (lithium manganese dioxide), the CR2450's packaging box is blue and is assembled inside a cylindrical shape with gaskets. The CR2032's packaging box is red, and its interior adopts a screw-free overall structure.

Ⅷ. CR2450 vs CR2032: Capacity

The capacity of CR2450 is usually 600 to 700mAh, while the capacity of CR2032 is usually around 200 to 250mAh. CR2450 usually has a larger battery capacity, so it can provide longer usage time.

Ⅸ. Are CR2450 and CR2032 interchangeable?

Although both batteries have a nominal voltage of 3.0V, they have different dimension and battery capacity ratings, so they cannot be used directly in place of each other. If the device is designed for only one specific battery size, inserting a different size battery may damage the device. We should make sure that we use a battery size that is appropriate for the requirements of the device.
