Ⅶ. Application cases of ADUM1200ARZ
The ADUM1200ARZ is a dual-channel digital isolator with 2/0 channel directivity, which is manufactured based on Analog Devices' iCoupler® technology. This isolation device perfectly combines high-speed CMOS technology with single-chip transformer technology, showing superior performance characteristics than alternative products such as optocouplers. ADUM1200ARZ provides two independent isolated channels, supports diverse channel configurations and data rates, and greatly meets the needs of different application scenarios. It can accept power supply voltages from 2.7V to 5.5V, so it has good compatibility with low-voltage systems and can effectively implement voltage conversion across the isolation barrier.
In addition, ADUM1200ARZ also has low pulse width distortion (CR level less than 3 ns) and precise channel-to-channel matching (CR level less than 3 ns). These characteristics ensure the accuracy and stability of data transmission. Compared with other optocouplers, the ADUM1200ARZ isolator has a unique patented refresh feature that ensures DC correctness when there are no input logic transitions and power-on/off conditions, thereby greatly enhancing system reliability.
Alternatives and equivalents:
1. High temperature operation and high data rate
The ADUM1200ARZ isolator sets a new industry standard by operating at temperatures up to 125°C and supporting data rates up to 25Mbps (NRZ). This feature ensures high-speed data transmission, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the transmission process.
2. Excellent common mode transient immunity
The ADUM1200ARZ digital isolator has excellent high common-mode transient immunity (rated >25kV/μs), demonstrating its strong defense against external interference. This feature not only maintains data integrity but also enhances system security, making it a reliable choice for a variety of applications.
3. Two-way communication and level conversion
One of the distinguishing features of the ADUM1200ARZ is its bidirectional communication and level translation capabilities. This property ensures an uninterrupted flow of data and facilitates integration across different systems, making it a universal solution for a variety of technology applications.
4. Low power consumption operation
The efficiency of the ADUM1200ARZ in low power operation in both 5V and 3V settings is unmatched. The device operates at 5V and consumes very low power, consuming 1.1mA per channel from 0Mbps to 2Mbps, 3.7mA per channel at 10Mbps, and 8.2mA per channel at 25Mbps. When the ADUM1200ARZ operates at a 3V operating voltage, it exhibits amazing efficiency. At the data rate of 0Mbps to 2Mbps, the current per channel is only 0.8mA; when the data rate is increased to 10Mbps, the current per channel is 2.2mA; and at the rate of 25Mbps, the current per channel is only 4.8mA.
The ADUM1200ARZ has several significant advantages compared to other optocouplers:
1. Small package: ADUM1200ARZ adopts a small package design, so it takes up less space. This feature is particularly important in applications with limited space, especially on circuit boards with high integration density. It can effectively reduce the space occupied by the circuit board and improve the flexibility of the overall layout.
2. Security: Since ADUM1200ARZ adopts digital isolation technology, it can effectively isolate the input and output terminals, improve the safety and stability of the system, and prevent damage or data errors caused by electrical interference.
3. Low power consumption: Compared with traditional optocouplers, ADUM1200ARZ has lower power consumption. This makes it more attractive in applications that require long operation times or require energy conservation.
4. High-speed transmission: ADUM1200ARZ is capable of high-speed data transmission and supports data transmission rates up to 150 Mbps, which gives it a clear advantage in applications requiring fast data transmission.
5. High accuracy: ADUM1200ARZ has excellent accuracy and reliability, ensuring accurate data transmission. This feature is particularly important in applications that require extremely high data integrity, such as medical equipment or industrial control systems.
The working principle of ADUM1200ARZ is based on electrical isolation and signal conversion. It uses ADI's iCoupler technology to achieve isolation through surface insulation layer technology (SIL), using thin films for insulation and passing signals from one side to the other through magnetic fields. This design philosophy enables the ADUM1200ARZ to demonstrate excellent performance, reliability and flexibility in various audio and speech processing applications. It mainly include the following aspects:
1. Convert analog input signals to digital signals: ADUM1200ARZ has two differential input terminals VDD1 and VDD2, which are connected to analog ground and digital ground respectively. When an analog signal is input, the voltage difference between VDD1 and VDD2 will change. This change will be captured by the analog input circuit of ADUM1200ARZ and converted into a digital signal.
2. Digital signal processing: ADUM1200ARZ has built-in hardware implementations of a variety of digital signal processing algorithms, including multipliers, adders, subtractors, summers, averagers, etc. These algorithms can be executed directly inside the digital signal processor to achieve fast processing of the input signal.
3. Output result: The output result of ADUM1200ARZ is usually a digital signal, which can be converted into an analog signal through a digital-to-analog converter (ADC) for subsequent application use.
Propagation delay is a parameter that describes the time it takes a logic signal to propagate through a component. The propagation delay to a logic low output can differ from the propagation delay to a logic high output.
Pulse width distortion is the maximum difference between these two propagation delay values and is an indication of how accurately the timing of the input signal is preserved. Channel-to-channel matching refers to the maximum amount that the propagation delay differs between channels within a single ADUM1200ARZ component. Propagation delay skew refers to the maximum amount that the propagation delay differs between multiple ADUM1200ARZ components operating under the same conditions.
