Taimide establishes new polyimide film production line

28 August 2023

Taiwan's polyimide film (PI) manufacturer Taimide Tech recently completed the construction of its second phase expansion project, paving the way for production of 5G and flexible display applications.

The company's chairman, Paul Wu, said the company spent NT$1.8 billion (US$58.9 million) to expand its base in northern Taiwan, including expanded R&D facilities.

Wu said it has built a production line with an annual output of 600 tons of PI film in the new plant to prepare for emerging business opportunities, especially in the 5G and flexible smartphone sectors.

Wu said that since the completion of the first phase of the project in 2014, the company has shipped more than 85 million square meters of PI film to customers worldwide.

Although it is recognized that the demand for PI film has been affected by factors such as the slowdown of the global smartphone market, Taimide is still optimistic about the growth potential of PI film due to the increasing use of flexible PCB in mobile phones, wearable devices and automobiles.

The company announced that its revenue for September was NT$134.6 million (US$4.3 million), a decrease of 16.43% from the previous month and a decrease of 27.64% from the same period last year. The accumulated revenue for the current (2011) year was NT$1.33 billion, a decrease of 24.7% from the same period last year.

The growing demand for PI films for 5G, thermal and transparent display applications will also help boost Taimide's revenue growth in 2020.
