Unimicron announces record earnings in August

28 August 2023

IC microscopy and PCB manufacturer Unimicron Technology reported that its consolidated revenue in August 2019 increased by 10.6% quarter-on-quarter and 7.9% year-on-year, reaching a record NT$7.97 billion (US$255.1 million).

Unimicron is one of the few high-end ABF substrate suppliers in the world, and its demand is strong due to emerging artificial intelligence (AI), high performance computing (HPC) and 5G applications.

Another Taiwanese IC substrate manufacturer, South Asia PCB, is also capable of producing ABF substrates. The company announced that its consolidated revenue in August 2019 increased 2.5% from the same period last year to NT$2.75 billion.

According to market observers, South Asia has seen its ABF substrate production line fully loaded and is expected to return to profit in 2019 after three consecutive losses.

Unicicron and Nan Ya are also working on the development of high-end substrates for AiP (antenna packaging) for mobile devices, observers said. Observers said that the demand for mobile chip packaging for BT substrates will also grow strongly in 2020 and will be another growth driver for Taiwan's two companies next year.

Unimicron revealed that its accumulated revenue in August 2019 increased 8.6% year-on-year to NT$52.18 billion, while South Asia's revenue increased 5.3% year-on-year to NT$19.42 billion.
