TWS earbud chip prices was fell

According to industry sources, the price of SoC chips used in true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones has been declining, mainly due to fierce competition among chip suppliers.

SoC chips designed for TWS earbuds include processors, Bluetooth chips and power management solutions, MEMS sensors and other components. Major mobile application processor developers Qualcomm, MediaTek and Unisoc also entered the TWS device market.

Sources said that the number of chip vendors able to develop SoC solutions for TWS earphones has grown rapidly over the past year, adding that competition among suppliers is heating up, which has caused the chip's unit price to fall below $1.50.

Taiwan-based Realtek Semiconductor and Pixart Imaging are among the first companies to enter the market, and TWS equipment shipments have been strong since the end of 2018. However, fabless companies face more competition and must upgrade their products to remain competitive. Early market entrants also faced fierce price competition from Chinese competitors.

The company began selling chip solutions for TWS and other Bluetooth wireless devices by the end of 2018 and achieved strong shipment growth in the past three quarters. Realtek also recently introduced a second-generation solution for TWS devices and will see new chips in new customer designs coming out in the fourth quarter of 2019.
