Micro LEDs attract attention at CES

28 August 2023

The explosion of CES 2020 begins. Big companies such as Intel, AMD and Samsung, as well as startups, are presenting their latest products and ideas at the annual show in Las Vegas.

In the display field, mini and micro LED technology have attracted attention. Samsung showed its modular micro LED display module, The Wall, which can be stacked to cover the entire wall. Taiwan's Industrial Research Institute also showed a 16.7-inch modular Micro LED display, which claims to be the first model in the world to directly transfer Micro LED chips to a PCB substrate in bulk-this process can reduce production costs.

Digitimes Research believes that, as shown in its latest special report on the future of micro / micro LEDs, technological advances are expected to expand the scope of adoption of micro LEDs in display modules that can be embedded in large screens of various sizes from 2024 .

Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) exhibited a 16.7-inch modular micro LED display at CES 2020. It claims that this is the world's first model that directly transfers micro LED chips directly to a PCB backplane in bulk without the use of Temporary backplane.

From 2024, Micro LED will be widely used in large displays: Due to the high production cost, Micro LED technology is currently limited to applications in high-end large-scale commercial displays and luxury home theater systems, but technological advances are expected to expand its scope of application.

Digitimes Research's new special report on the outlook for micro and micro LEDs shows that from 2024, these display modules can be embedded into large screens of various sizes.

Taiwanese company showcases mini LED backlight products at CES International 2020: Asustek Computer and Acer are showing 32-inch 4K mini LED backlit gaming LCD displays at CES 2020. These displays have 1,152 local dimming zones with a maximum brightness of 1,400nits.

New-generation PC processors will start stimulating demand in the third quarter of 2020: With Intel, AMD and Nvidia delivering their new-generation processors later this year, industry players are generally optimistic about PC sales growth starting in the third quarter.
